Your animals are family!
But unlike human children, they can’t tell us what’s wrong when they’re sick, so they rely on their owners and their veterinarians to make the right choices for their care. That care includes their healthcare needs which often include managing their pet meds. Hoye’s Pharmacy is dedicated to partnering with the patient/animal owner and veterinarian to provide the safest and most effective pet meds possible.
With over 25 years of experience specializing in compounding individualized medications, Hoye’s understands that every animal patient is UNIQUE. Animals have different needs and tolerances to medication due to size and physiology; one-size-fits-all medications may not meet their INDIVIDUAL need and using human medications can be deadly! Customized pet med compounds may be the solution you are looking for!

Our Pet Meds Pharmacy Commitment
At Hoye’s we are committed to excellence in the compounding of pet medications. Since 2010, our accreditation as a PCAB® (Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board) pharmacy illustrates our strict adherence to the most stringent safety and quality practices. Two legs or four legs… all Hoye’s customers will be treated with the same level of professionalism, courtesy and care. Our staff consists of a world class team of pharmacists and technicians committed to providing you the best pet meds available.
Dealing with the health concerns of an animal can be difficult, especially when we cannot always talk to the patient and hear their concerns. At Hoye’s, we believe in the “Triad of Care” where the pharmacist works with the veterinarian and patient owner to discuss the patient history to make the best decision possible regarding their pet meds.
Our compounding pharmacy is committed to:
- Offering the highest quality of customized pet meds at a fair price
- Providing an outstanding level of quality care
- Understanding the needs and expectations of our customers
- Maintaining the highest level of quality controls in our state-of-the-art laboratory
How to Choose a Pet Medication Pharmacy
Compounding is unique and a very specialized niche of pharmacy. Because we hand make every pet med we dispense, selecting a compounding pharmacy you have confidence in is very important. The following questions are good to ask to ensure your compounding pharmacy is adhering to the highest standards of quality.
Are you a PCAB® Accredited Pharmacy?
YES (PCAB ensures their standards of practice meet or exceed USP 795/797 guidelines – PCAB is the highest accreditation available for a compounding pharmacy. USP795/797 are written standards regarding compounding practices)
Are you a DYNALABS™ Center for Quality Improvement Center of Excellence?
YES (CQI ensures the clinical staff is routinely trained/tested on compounding techniques and practices, vendors meet a specific criteria and chemicals used meet FDA standards)
Are the pharmacists and technicians properly licensed/registered and in good standing with the Board of Pharmacy?
YES (Ensures their staff routinely attends CE programs, have fulfilled all licensing requirements and background checks and do not have any violations against their license/registration).
Can you provide pedigrees/certificate of analysis for all chemicals?
YES (A pedigree show the chain of custody for active ingredients (where the chemical originated from and where it has been before arriving at a pharmacy) and the certificate of analysis ensures the active ingredients being used in your pet meds are the what they say they are and are the correct potency)
How Do I Get My Vet to Prescribe a Compounded Pet Med?
Compounding pharmacy is centuries old. In recent years, the demand for individualized, quality-controlled compounding has increased with the focus of medicine returning to the needs of the individual animal patient, as opposed to the “one-size fits all” or “cookie cutter” model. While manufactured medications may be appropriate for some patients, there are other factors which may make compounding the patient’s best option:
- The animal patient has allergies, which requires an allergy-free pet med.
- The animal patient requires a reduced dosage/strength of pet med due to body size/weight not commercially available.
- The animal patient needs a pet med that has been discontinued by the pharmaceutical manufacturer or is on back-order.
- The animal patient requires a unique or different dosage form from a manufactured pharmaceutical (i.e. the patient cannot swallow pills and needs the medication in a liquid or topical form).
Ask your veterinarian today about the benefits of compounding a specific pet med for your pet. If he is not familiar with compounding, ask him to contact a pharmacist at Hoye’s Pharmacy today for more information on unique pet meds!
