  • Why should I suggest compounded medications to my patients?

When regular prescriptions are not working for your patients, compounded prescriptions offer a more individualized approach. By making the medication specific to the patient, the patient can become more compliant with the therapy and receive the therapeutic result desired.

Compounded medications also allow you to continue to use formulations that are not available on the mass market, thus expanding the choices available to the patient. Prescribing compounded medications for your patients also lets the patient know that you are treating them as an individual and are not fitting them into a "one size fits all" therapy. It can help strengthen your relationship with your patient.

  • How are you different than a “regular” pharmacy?

Unlike regular pharmacies that dispense medications that have been mass produced, each medication that we dispense is prepared in our lab. We use state of the art equipment and do extensive research on ingredients and drug therapies to ensure the best medication is provided to you. We specialize in solving medication problems so you can receive a successful therapeutic outcome from your medication.

  • How do I write a prescription for a compounded medicine?

Use this easy prescription template and call, fax or send it with the patient.

There are several ways to write a prescription for a compounded medication:

    Call in to Hoye's Pharmacy -  813-839-8861 x1:

Simply call in the prescription.  If you are unsure of what to order or have questions regarding the prescription,  call in and speak with one of our Compounding Specialists. We can do any research needed or make a recommendation based on our extensive database formulary in house.  We are happy to help you find the right solution!

    Fax Rx to 813-839-8941:

If you use the same types of compounded medications routinely, we can customize an easy to use template that you can photocopy and fax to us.  We can also forward the template to your IT staff to add to your electronic prescribing software program.  Or you can write it out on a regular Rx pad and fax to us.  Whatever is easiest for you!

    TIP:

Always include a legibly printed name and phone number for both the prescriber and patient.

What happens once we receive the Rx?

Once we receive a prescription, the patient is called and we review the medication being ordered, answer any questions they may have and tell them the cost.  As soon as we receive the patient's approval to make the medication,  the Rx is prepared and dispensed.  (Most prescriptions are prepared within 24 hours of patient approval.)  After several quality control checkponts, the Rx will receive it's final check.  The medication will be shipped to the patient or we will call the patient to let them know their medication is ready to be picked up, depending on the patient's preference.
